Jewish Hollywood producers’ neglect of Jewish themes and heroes whose Jewish identity is visible in the movie plot (Meyer’s attempt at preventing the production of Gentleman’s Agreement because it dealt with antisemitism). Jewish topics, culture and heroes in movies and television movies from the middle of the 1940’s (from The Great Dictator onwards). [Note: This course would not be supported by a Posen Foundation Grant as a stand-alone course, and works only in the context of a larger program in the study of Judaism as Culture or Secular Judaism.]
