A Flame Still BurnsAdult children of intermarried couples are the focus of a new study “A Flame Still Burns: The Dimensions and Determinants of Jewish Identity Among Young Adult Children of the Intermarried,” undertaken by the Jewish Outreach Institute. The study, conducted by Dr. Pearl Beck, found that despite low levels of religious identification and very weak ties to the religious and ethnic dimensions of their Jewish identity, participants still maintain strong cultural ties to the Jewish community. They have a positive regard for “Jewishness” and a large percentage of those claiming neither Jewish upbringing nor identity, still find being Jewish important. The JOI study is available here.
