Grants for the Study of Secular Judaism

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, September 2003 - The Center for Cultural Judaism announces Posen Foundation Grants for the Study of Secular Judaism. These grants are intended to cultivate and support the study of secular Judaism within already well-established university programs and departments of Judaic Studies, and other departments or programs in the humanities, arts or the social sciences (e.g. Philosophy, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, etc.) Grants will be awarded to support the curricular development and teaching of two to four courses per year in the origin, history, development, texts, philosophy, writings and practices of Secular Judaism. In addition, institutions may choose from our broad list of suggested topics and courses to develop additional courses in peripheral subjects designed to enhance the understanding of the primary course in Secular Judaism. To be eligible for the Posen Foundation Grants, the primary course must focus specifically on Secular Judaism.

A number of grants of up to $50,000 each per year will be awarded for the 2004-2005 academic year, or as early as the Spring 2004 semester if the university is prepared to begin curriculum development. Upon review, these grants are renewable for up to two years at the discretion of the Center for Cultural Judaism and The Posen Foundation.
