Paul Buhle, Senior Lecturer in American Civilization at Brown University, will discuss the contribution of leftwing Jewish Americans to popular culture at the inaugural lecture of the Morris U. Schappes Centennial Lecture and Performance Series at the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring. The series honors the centennial of the birth of longtime Jewish Currents editor Morris Schappes, who died in 2003 at the age of 97. Buhle has written or edited more than thirty books, including The Encyclopedia of the American Left and the three-volume, Jews and American Popular Culture.
