JCC in Manhattan
334 Amsterdam Ave at 76th St.
Three Wednesdays at 7pm
Rachel Elior, professor of Jewish Philosophy and Mysticism at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, will turn her attention to the question of what modern Israeli culture does with its past, exploring the transformation of ancient biblical texts in modern literature and art and the way in which the past is appropriated and reshaped through a modern secular lens. Her most recent book is "The Three Temples: On the Emergence of Jewish Mysticism." Dr. Elior is the editor of "Men and Women: Gender, Judaism and Democracy" (published by Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, 2004) and widely regarded in Israel as one of the most important activists and theoreticians on behalf of women.
All members of the JCC in Manhattan, SHJ, CSJO, and Workmen's Circle communities are welcome to attend at the discounted member price.
